Gemini - Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2011

Gemini is the blend of oils from two of the top producers in Italy - Frantoio Franci in the Grosseto region of Tuscany, and Fontanasalsa from the Trapani region on the Western coast of Sicily. The oil is a blend of olives; 65% Correggiolo and 35% Moraiolo (the Tuscan component) and 100% Cerasuola di Paceco (the Sicilian component); and therefore gives a unique flavor and aroma.

The Franci olives are hand-picked in late October in Tuscany, while the Fontanasalsa olives are hand-picked in November. Complexity is the key word for this oil. The taste has a rich vegetable potency, with dominance of artichoke and tomato. A slightly sweet sensation opens to a flavor that is well-balanced, bitter and spicy. It is rich in persistent aromatic notes; fresh, herbaceous, complex, clear scent of olives, and notes of artichoke, tomato, fruity, and floral. Almost imperceptible are the hints of zagara; the orange flower.
