Bochicchio Extra Virgin Olive Oil 2010 ~ SALE

SKU BOC-001
Just saying Bochicchio is a mouthful, and this new extra virgin olive oil brings a new tasting experience. This selection is from Basilicata, and the full name of the producer is Il Frantoio Oleario Bochicchio di Brienza Donatina.

Grown in the district of Pallanza, at 650 meters above sea level, the Ogliarola Bradano trees have been in the family for over 150 years, passed from generation to generation. In all they have 2500 olive trees yielding extra virgin olive oil. It is cold extracted and fully of natural antioxidants.

Ogliarola Bradano olives produce an oil that has a fruity, spicy flavor, with pleasant hints of almond, tomato and apple.

The Bochicchio family first installed the their own mill in 1960. The Bochicchio adheres firmly to the tenets of organic production, and their olive oil is an entirely natural product.

Basilicata is a somewhat isolated area with only three main rail lines through the region. You could say that it is in the arch of the sole of the boot, nestled between the heel and the toe of southern Italy. It is undiscovered as a tourist destination.

You’ll find a bit of a peppery bite, and this goes well with flavorful food. It’s terrific in a salad with grains (think farro) and roasted vegetables. The cuisine of the area is quite spicy with peppers, salumi, and sopressata. Pecorino cheese and grand full red wines round out the best known foods of Basilicata.

Best by December 2012.
