Il Mongetto’s Mostarda di Uva comes to us from Monferrato in the province of Alessandria in the northern Italian Piemonte region. This is an authentic Italian preserve, perhaps best paired with cheese for an appetizer.

This thick savory-sweet condiment is prepared and simmered in the best of tradition. This old recipe includes Moscato wine must, pumpkin, quince, walnuts, hazelnuts, pears, figs, orange and lemon peels, and spices.

Serve with roasted meats, polenta, and cheese. Or on grilled cheese, or simply toast. If, as a child, you enjoyed maple syrup on snow, give this a try on snow. Not to encourage snow storms….but if your next dinner party is timed with a snowstorm, you will have the most innovative dessert with this in your pantry.
