Flos Olei 2017 (86/100)
We met Enrico DeMarco at TuttoFood in Milan. We were immediately impressed by his olive oil and label and further impressed to know that he has learned his craft under the tutelage of Americo Quattrociocchi.
The farm, known as E.D. Enrico is located in Itri and Castellonorato area, on 30 acres where they care for 3000 olive trees. The grove is dominated by a collection of centuries old Itrana trees. The olives are grown, picked, and crushed in a mix of tradition an innovation in the Colline Pontine (Pontine Hills) area.
Itranae, a monocultivar of precious Itrana Olive oils. Produced by only this one cultivar, they express a fruity flavor, lightly bitter and spicy with notes of grass and green tomatoes.
As with many families in Italy, with grandfathers and uncles growing olives through the ages. Enrico tells a story of traipsing through the groves if uncles needed to be contacted during the day.
