San Damiano di Francesca Barnato 2008

SKU SND-003
The artisan producers at Azienda Agricola San Damiano di Francesca Barnato have produced a lovely traditional oil, a monocultivar of Taggiasca olives. The groves are located in the Riviere Ligure di Ponente in the western Italian Riviera, in the region of Liguria. In 2006 Slow Food recognized San Damiano as “a beautiful expression of typicality, balance and finesse”, an excellent and typical oil.

This premium estate bottled oil is unfiltered with a creamy, cloudy appearance. The traditional mill utilizes stones, a mechanical press, and centrifuge for cold pressing. The oil is delicate and sweet, with a fruity aroma, and a slight tomato scent.

The original groves have been in the family since the 17th Century, and there are now 3200 trees on 25 acres. The property is located in the small hamlet of Frazione Caio in the hills above Anorea, between the coastal towns of Alassio and Imperia.

This is a very small producer and the organic certification costs are high. This oil is organically produced but no longer carries certified organic labelling.
