Emilia Romagna, in this case the eastern region of Romagna just one hour from Bologna, is famous for its olive oil. The olive trees have been growing since Roman times on these hills near the town of Brisighella. Produced in the area between Terra del Sole and Brisighella, mapped in the Provinces of Forli-Cesena and Ravenna respectively in the region of Emilia-Romagna. Some reflect on this hilly region as reminiscent of the hilltowns of Umbria.

The Brisighella olive oil has received the D.O.P. mark and it is recognized by the European community.

The oil is of a superior quality, green in color with a golden glint. It has a spicy perfume with pleasant bitter tones. Our selection is Alina, a 100% Nostrana di Brisighella monocultivar oil.

The olive producing area is centered on Brisighella and Terra del Sole, south of Faenza. Brisighella is a very scenic hill town much like one would find in Tuscany. Terra del Sole is a Medieval planned community, and a spa town abuts it to the south. The Terra di Brisighella is the DOP for this area.

Local cuisine includes foods that are just perfect with the local oil, as you would expect. Local vegetables, meats, cheeses, and wine fill the tables, and artichokes were a fabulous treat.
