Felice Garibaldi is a new olive oil from the family estate, DeCarlo. The exceptional oil is 100% Ogliarola from a special early harvest of top olives. Age of trees is unknown, but ranges from 120 to over 200 years old. This oil is a smidge softer than Torre di Mossa.

Flavors of green olives, apple, lettuce and sage. Black pepper is present but moderate, spiciness is moderate plus. Recommended with seafood.

The history lesson: Felice Garibaldi, an oil born in order to celebrate Giuseppe Garibaldi’s brother who, in 1835, marked a turning point in oil production in Puglia, thanks to the insight of picking the fruits directly from the trees. This oil, from the Ogliarola cultivar, is gently fruity, characterized by a bright green color, and a scent which reminds field greens and green tomato, with a definite predominance of olive; its flavor is softer and balanced, characterized by notes of fresh grasses and, in the end, green almond, and stimulates with a soft and lively spicy flavor.

If you’ve read Tom Mueller’s Extravirginity: The Sublime and Scandalous World of Olive Oil, then you know about the remarkable efforts of the DeCarlo family in Puglia. Their family’s mill dates back to the 1600s, and extra virgin olive oil production is an art fostered by artisans.

This great oil produced from the family’s groves is pressed from only Coratina olives, yielding an excellent oil with a characteristic spicy finish.

The DeCarlo family harvests by hand selecting only the best fruit. The olives are processed through a continuous cycle mill and filtered through cotton.

We recommend this extra virgin olive oil with grilled fish, vegetables, salads, and grilled bruschetta.
