There are twenty regions of Italy, each with its own distinct characteristics. Until the Cavour, Mazzini, and Garibaldi led the unification of Italy in the 1860's, there was no country called Italy. The regions we know today were an assortment of independently governed areas. The foods, the landscape, the wines, and the oils vary widely from region to region,. and the local and regional customs vary greatly. Our selection of books offers an abundance of information on the sights and foods of each region. We encourage you to explore the foods of each region.
