description

We anticipate the arrival of Olio della Donna in the second half of December.

Olio della Donna is the new label of Elaine Trigiani (you know her from Sàgona) making super high quality extra virgin olive oil in Tuscany and Sicily.  Olives are farmed in historically auspicious production zones and only where avant-garde milling equipment and expert millers are available. For the 2022 harvest Elaine worked with organic farmers and expert millers, one of each in Tuscany and Sicily. This This Sicilian oil was made in the Belice River Valley in the NW corner of the island.

Elaine's team picks early so the olive oil is full of flavor and antioxidants-- and the oil maintains its flavor over time. The olives are milled immediately, within 4-8 hours) to guarantee super high quality.

At Olio della Donna, the olives are produced with organic methods, the collaborators are paid a fair wage, and the boxes and bottles are sustainably produced.

The organic Sicilian olives were picked in the second week of October. A blend of organic Nocellara del Belice and Biancolilla olives go into this intense, exuberant oil with fruity, tomatoey perfumes and a bright spice.

LaStoria features tons of fruity, tomatoey perfumes, intense and fruity with nutty undertones and a persistent bright spice. Sicilian Nocellara del Belice olives are tamed a bit by the Biancolilla olives that grow next to them in the fields. Try LaStoria on pizza, fennel, a shredded cabbage salad, with pork, flavorful fish, winter squashes, on tomatoes with basil, with mild cheeses, use it to make a vegetable pasta, to make caponata...

The history, storia, of this project is reflected in this oil, made in the Belice valley in the interior of northwest Sicily, where it all started back in the 1700s, in the groves of contrada della Donna. Elaine says, "A more recent, slightly scathing, remark from my aunt in Sicily kickstarted this project: You don't buy olive oil, you make it. After making award winning olive oils with a farm in Tuscany, I'm finally producing my own Olio della Donna. Thanks Francesca!"
